2nd Chapter - The Accident That Changed Everything
As I coming around, I looked around the room, the faces of concerned aunties and cousins blurred together, their worried expressions and tear-filled eyes a poignant backdrop. Srijana remained beside me, a steadfast presence amidst the chaos. With a gentle urgency lacing her words, she leaned in close and whispered, “We need to get to the hospital. They're waiting for us.”
Slowly emerging from the shock and piecing together the fragments of conversation with Srijana, I turned to her and uttered, “NO… NO…,” the words choked out between sobs.
Suddenly, Papa entered the room and said,” It’s time to go to the hospital.”
Avoiding eye contact, he left quickly, unable to witness my breakdown. Still in denial, Srijana guided me slowly to the awaiting taxi, ready to take us to the hospital.
The journey to the hospital stretched on, each passing minute feeling like eternity. Silence enveloped us, the weight of the situation pressing down heavily, turning the world around me into a surreal nightmare. No words could convey the turmoil within me; my emotions were muted, overshadowed by the relentless flow of tears that refused to cease.
I sat in the taxi, staring blankly out of the window, the scenery passing by in a blur. Srijana held onto my hand, her touch offering a lifeline amidst the numbness that consumed me. Yet, even her presence couldn’t ease the overwhelming disbelief that gripped my heart.
The reality of the situation seemed too surreal to comprehend, and I struggled to accept the unthinkable truth looming before me. As we drew, closer to the hospital, the gravity of the moment weighted heavily upon me, each passing moment a painful reminder of the stark reality. I was about to face.
